S4S conducts its first SEL change of responsibility

By Maj Erin Leon

In a change of responsibility ceremony presided over by Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Schiess, U.S. Space Forces – Space (S4S) commander and Combined Joint Force Space Component commander, Chief Master Sgt. Grange Coffin, outbound S4S command senior enlisted leader, passed the responsibility of caring for the enlisted forces within S4S to Chief Master Sgt. Tina Timmerman, inbound command SEL, at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif., Aug. 23, 2024.

“This ceremony holds great significance as it represents the seamless transition of senior enlisted leadership and is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment of our enlisted force,” said Schiess. “Today, we pay tribute to the leadership of CMSgt Coffin and welcome CMSgt Timmerman as she assumes the responsibilities of our command senior enlisted leader.”

Coffin has served through the command since February 2021, helping to navigate through the deactivation of the Combined Force Space Component Command to the standup of the current S4S command.

Timmerman comes to the command from a position at Space Force Headquarters in Washington D.C. and is excited for the opportunity to be back in an operational unit.

The command SEL change of responsibility ceremony is a Space Force tradition that is meant to recognize the important role senior enlisted leaders have in the organization.

“This tradition is a testament to the dedication, commitment, and sacrifice of our Senior Enlisted Leaders,” said Schiess. “May this ceremony serve as a reminder of our shared purpose, our collective strength, and our unwavering commitment to our mission – Protect, Defend, Deliver, Connect.”
