History
As directed by the Chief of Space Operations, S4S was established on Dec. 6, 2023. Upon its establishment, Space Operations Command-West was separated from Headquarters Space Operations Command and redesignated as a Component Field Command to the U.S. Space Force.
This reorganization included the deactivation of the Combined Force Space Component Command and the Joint Task Force Space Defense. Additionally, the Combined Joint Task Force Space Operations evolved into joint functional component authorities conferred by the U.S. Space Command commander to the S4S commander. Since its inception, S4S has served as the U.S. Space Force service component to U.S. Space Command and maintains a supporting relationship with U.S. Northern Command and all other combatant commands.
