U.S. Space Force Lt. Gen. Dennis O. Bythewood, commander of U.S. Space Forces - Space and the Combined Joint Force Space Component, addresses Guardians and personnel assigned to Combat Delta 1-5 during an all-call at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif., April 24, 2026. During his visit, Bythewood toured the Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC) alongside Col. Justin Sorice, Combat Delta 1-5 commander, where he recognized top-performing personnel and held a dedicated Q&A session. Bythewood underscored the necessity of cultivating a relentless warfighting mindset to close the Blue Kill Chain and maintain space superiority in an increasingly contested domain. As a critical node for S4S and U.S. Space Command, CDEL 1-5 provides operational-level mission planning and command and control, working seamlessly with allied partners to connect capabilities, deliver tailored space effects to combatant commanders globally, and ultimately protect and defend the Joint Force.
